Planica in the World famous Ski-jumping centre, originally built by our engineer Stanko Bloudek. The centre lies under the Mountains "Ponce" in the Valley named "Dolina pod Poncami". Planica is also known by its many World records in ski-jumping for ages and holds a World record nowadays as well. The firs ski-jumps over 100 m and over 200 m were also achieved here. Skiing is the Slovene national sport, and a long string of Olympic and World Cup successes attest to the prowess and competitive spirit of this snow-topped nation. Slovenia also hosts a number of World Cup competitions in both skiing and ski- jumping. The first skier to fly more than 100 meters took off from Planica's jump, and in March 1994 this mountain resort witnessed a 209 meter jump that set a new world record then. Current world record is held by Matti Hautamäki - 231 m sset in Planica in 2003. Slovenia is also competitive in the market place with Elan being the ski of choice for numerous champions.
