Accomplishments

Made a record-breaking 6th Olympic participation.
Silver medal at the 4 x 100 metre relay (her 8th Olympic medal - record for a female athlete).
Finished 4th in the Olympic 100 metre final at the age of 40 (oldest finalist ever).
Total victories: 12 (18 races)

 

On July 3. 2000 Merlene was acquitted of all charges against her and she continued to compete.

From February 14. 2000 Merlene Ottey was suspended from any IAAF competition. Her "nandrolone case" has been sent to  IAAF Arbitrary Tribunal, which held the hearing of both parties between June 16. and 17. 

Their final decision was published on July 3.rd 2000. Merlene was acquitted of all charges against her.
